Arlington sits in eastern Tarrant County, halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth, with Interstate 30 across the north side, Interstate 20 along the south and State Highway 360 running between them. River Legacy Park runs 1,300 acres along the Trinity River with about 10 miles of trails, a nature playground and a paddling trail, and the trails and nature center cost nothing. Lake Arlington has two city boat ramps with docks, at Richard Simpson Park and the 14 acre Bowman Springs Park, which also has a fishing pier and walking trails. The Lake Arlington Paddling Trail runs about 10.9 miles and was the first flat water paddling trail in Texas. Swimming and tubing are not allowed, so plan the water day around the boat.
Rush Creek Dog Park covers seven acres with separate fenced off leash areas, dog wash stations and about 2.5 miles of trails nearby. If the dog travels with you, the dog crate question is not a detail, it is the whole floor plan. Bring the measurements when you come.
Cedar Hill State Park sits about 30 miles from downtown Fort Worth on 7,500 acre Joe Pool Lake, with 350 campsites, all on water and electric and 150 of them on sewer, plus two four lane boat ramps. That is a close enough shakedown run to test every system in a new to you rig before you commit to a long trip.
